Thiis is my first
shellac burn…I saw it demonstrated on YouTube…painted the painting first with lots of layers of wax/burn/wax/burn..you get the idea…then it was soooo uninteresting…sooo I covered it with a thick layer of amber shellac and let a match to it…it is a good thing Tom was not home…the flames grew to about 18 inches…sometimes i wish when I make a mistake in my ‘real’ life I could shellac it and light it…what an experiement!!! I like the result

Delicious texture! What other medium can grab you like this? Now I could add some more encaustic medium and then smooth it out but it just has so much guttural passion…I think I will leave it be!

Now this shows the texture pretty well…am trying to express the authenticity of the medium…you add a layer/burn with a blow torch (my favorite part!)and then add another layer—torch it—then another—then when I have totally lotst my intent…I scape back and discover…after the process I title the piece…it is sorta like naming a child…does the name matter? and then you just throw the name at the piece (or child) and the piece (or child) grows into creating itself…so what do you think the name of this piece should be?

This is a little blurry as a photo..the actual piece is more crisp…am loving the blue trees…

so what if I return to animals…it really IS about the texture!!! not the animals…but you have to start with something..and I DO love horses

So experimenting…lots of texture but then I covered with a coat of clear medium to give it depth..very smooth with a lot of scraping

So this is becoming more detail but still with the texture…
