oh and her name is Sophia…so Sophia put those shapes in the top of this painting…trees?/little tiny green poops? (maybe the ultra has taken control) but notice how the roof is leaning? I could’ve ‘fixed’ that but Sophia wanted it JUST THAT WAY…BECAUSE

now on to the rest…had to put that circle above the red shape…somehow my creativity wakes up when I have a series that I am working on…she (oh, yes, indeed she is a SHE!!!) She will not even come to the table until the rational mind sits down..and then she comes in with such a flurry on craziness…just does what she wants and is flamboyant and free and offers no explanation as to why or what she does…when I can hear her speak I truly just do as she bids me to do….THAT is what these geometric shapes are REALLY about…because SHE SAID SO

so the deal is…I started out with several boards lines up (only 12″x12″) all I had gessoed first…”they’ say to gesso first so I do BUT when I do not and just let the wax hit the boards well, it sinks in just as well..so I think perhaps it is just the gesso makers who ‘profit’ by the ‘should’ but this series of hard shapes…are all done on GESSOED boards…so maybe THAT will be the name of this series…gessoed buildings! ha! you would not believe how many squareds have come and gone on this board…to make them relate in shaped and color..the angst of this!

Oh…this is the first in a series I have begun…now this is scrumptious…TEXTURE!!!! I have decided that smooth does not work for me in wax because it is so %$&^*() tedious to make it smooth..layers and scraping and layers and scraping and well…I LIKE TO PAINT….and the texture and effects just excite me…I cant sleep after I have worked at night on these paintings…like watching Jack Bower on 24!!who could sleep waiting to see what will happen next?

So this time I wanted to try the YOU Tube transfer lesson I watched…so I started with a photo I took of a something or other when I was taking Maggie for a walk…how many times do we just take for granted what we see and yet have no understanding of what this is…gas line/water/electricity…no definitely not electricity but still a complicated pipe/valve system…so on to the process…photo then to Office Depot for a laser copy…then several layers of wax medium on a board covered with gesso…then lay it face down and burnish with a spoon (that means rub it like crazy in all directions until it ‘sticks’) then gently add drops of water on the back and rub ‘gently’ the paper off…then the painting begins…I put the crow because well…that is what I was thinking of…the crow looking at that piece of ‘stuff’ with about as much understanding as me….

I probably should rephotograph this piece because it really is lovely in person and this is way too blurry…but I am lazy as a photographer and the truth is the only reason I am able to sit down and do this series of blogs is because I am drinking Michelob Ultra Amber..so maybe THAT should be the title of this one

I love the phalo blue wasx!! so these trees are an excuse to use it…composition is key in this painting…the ‘trees’ leading you back to the red…well, what IS THAT ABOUT? dont we all have red when you get deep inside us?

So I love to draw/paint people…so I wanted to see if I could use the texture and paint a woman…just a feeling/not a portrait. the red against the green on the ‘hat’ is pretty contrived but actually works I think…remember this is really just doing texture with LOTS of layers of wax….naming the wax in this instance as ‘woman’ but if you turn this painting upside down it is still stimulating

Another shellac burn but this time I painted over it with more wax after it had burned itself out and dried…the next day…this is sooo exciting..I wish it was bigger than the 12″x12″ board it is painted on…but my vision for these small pieces is to experiment freely and see what works and then to create a bigger piece..but this one is pretty precious

Oh my goodness!! The lavender against the green…just putting a little descriptive tree trunks…and people can respond…I think sometimes when I do total abstractions people get confused (truth is…sometimes I am confused!) but once they can ‘identify’ with a form then they can appreciate the texture/colors/lines…the emotional context can be experienced without a challenge to their intellect…I think it is like the mind wants to control the experience of art…but once IT is satisfied the emotional being can relax and breathe the truth of the matter…
