FAlling for RED

This is one of the 100’s of wax paintings I have done on 12″x12″ panels…in wax..very textured..although I was ‘taught’ the smooth way…went to a workshop @ Penland with an R&F teacher who was fabulous –Fall 2009..Encaustic painting is so freeing and fun. I think I love it because I cant control the process. I start out with the plan but then I torch it with a Home Depot blowtorch (Tom leaves the garage when I bring the BIG boy out)and the painting takes on a new identity.

Lake Toxaway in wax

My next huge encaustic piece…6’x4’…tons of wax…lots of blow torching…at least 20 layers…many hours…finally I was happy…that is my ending point—I paint til I am happy! sometimes a lot of angst gets released in the process…and that is the truth…

Forever Now

This is my first try at doing a large encaustic piece…this is done on a panel 6’x3’…a lot of waxing went into this piece…when I am finished I use a blow torch to fuse each layer and then use a standard car polisher to polish…very exciting in person…I love the texture possible with waxing…my new passion!
